UC Berkeley Centers for Cities and Regions
The importance of research that focuses on the affairs of cities and regions is increasingly apparent: over half the world's population now lives in cities; the vast majority of future global growth is projected for cities; cities have been and continue to be the engines of economic growth and prosperity; cities' environmental footprints are immense and enlarging, and thus they must be part of strategic efforts to advance sustainable energy, mitigate or adapt to global warming, alleviate poverty, and expand opportunities to their residents.
As part of an ongoing effort to identify and link together research with a focus on cities and regions in a variety of disciplines, IURD is gathering a list of UC Berkeley research centers, groups and initiatives where this type of work is taking place. We invite you to suggest additional centers by emailing us here with a reference to cities and regions in your message or subject line.
We expect this list to evolve and expand, as awareness of this effort spreads.
Please also consult the Cities and Regions Events Calendar
It will draw from these centers and other sources for relevant events. Again, we expect this to expand and evolve, and we invite your suggestions. Email us here.
