Zhong Xing, professor from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at Chongqing University, China, is Vice Director of the Institute of Urban Planning and Design. His specialty is Urban Planning and Design, and he is engaged in Ecological Planning for the Mountainous City. His latest monograph, “Fringe Area and Edge-effect - A Broad Field of Vision on Urban-Rural Ecological Planning” (2007) offers a special view on peripheral space on ecological planning. His recently-finished project “Planning Research on Heterogeneous Fringe Area Between Constructive and Non-constructive Lands, Based on Ecological Integration” (2005-2007) shed light on the interactive relationship between non-constructive environmental-space and building area ,which is a Key Technologies Research Program from Ministry of Education of China. He has finished a project, “The Eco-features and The Planning of the Fringe Area between Heterogeneous Spaces National” (2004-2006) from the Natural Science Foundation of China , researched into the theory and approach of eco-city planning. His urban planning works “Ecological Planning for South Taiyuan Area of Baoji City” (2005-2006), focuses on creating the mountainous city’s spatial characteristic based on the surroundings. “The Planning for Non-constructive Land of Chengdu City” (2003-2004) reflects the land use control to promote the formation of healthy environment.
