Yelda Özdemirli is a Ph.D. candidate from the Department of City and Regional Planning at Middle East Technical University, in Ankara, Turkey. Her research interests are housing management, squatter housing and urban renewal. Her current research focuses on urban transformation policy and practices in terms of urban renewal and regeneration in the unauthorized housing settlements of Turkey. Her study examines the physical, social, economic and ethical problems associated with the transformation of these settlements. Her research aims to understand and explain the multi-dimensional mechanisms and dynamics of urban transformation by examining the institutional background and through studying the socio-economic implications by conducting household surveys on the stakeholders of the transformation processes.
